Pipe burst in Vermont
This winter our crews traveled to Vermont where they experienced temperatures of 30 below! There were so many frozen pipe bursts that SERVPRO activated our Storm Response to help the local franchises.
Gotta know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em.
Our primary goal when approaching property damage is to restore as much as possible and only replace when absolutely necessary. This basement had several rooms that had plaster walls and ceilings that were completely saturated due to a frozen pipe that burst. Despite it's hardness and strength, plaster is very absorbent, but does not like to release the moisture very quickly at all. Our technicians must weigh the cost of how long it will take to dry and the cost of those services against how fast it will dry with the plaster removed which will add repair costs to the claim. In this case it was simple, the drying charges for all of the plaster would have been much higher than removing it, drying the framing and then replacing the walls and ceilings (likely with drywall). We make these decisions routinely for the most cost effective outcome for the customer, not the most profitable one to us. Just one more way we strive to earn your trust.
